What was the highlight of Britannia Hotel Bolton
Clean hotel, helpful and friendly staff, but our stay was spoiled by a few niggles.
The hotel was very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The bedrooms were as I expected from a 3* hotel.
There was no buffet breakfast on the Friday morning. The full English breakfast was brought already plated up and the bacon was very hard, as though it had been kept warm for a while. There was no orange juice available in the dispenser. When we returned to our room in the afternoon after a day out the key didn't work so we had to have it recharged, a trip back downstairs and up again. On the Saturday morning there was a problem with breakfast in that there was very little ready in the buffet (problem with the gas?) and we were told it would be 15 mins before the food was replenished so we asked for a refund and ate elsewhere. When we returned to our room in the afternoon after another day out, once again the key didn't work and after 3 further unsuccessful trips downstairs to get the key recharged, staff came with the master key which also didn't work. Apparently there had been problems with the door mechanism in other rooms, but not until that point in our room! We were then asked to wait in the lounge whilst someone from maintenance came to sort the problem. An hour later we were told they had opened the door but it wouldn't lock so we had to move all our things to another room. I'm just glad we didn't have to be somewhere in a hurry that night. Thankfully breakfast the next morning was fine, with plenty of choice in the buffet. I have to add that the staff were very helpful and friendly, and did all they could to sort the problems, hence the ratings I have given, but these few niggles with the breakfast and the door mechanism rather tainted our stay.

Pleasant business stay ruined by a rude member of staff
Price was fair. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly. Parking was included. Shower was fine. Room OK
A female member of the bar staff was extremely rude. The heating (I think that’s what it was) was very loud in the middle of the night.
